How many times have you put your dishwasher on to do the dishes, only to discover when you go and unload the machine that there is dishwasher residue on your plates, pots and glasses? It’s one of those things that does annoy you, as you either need to re-run the cycle or do them by hand. It’s well known that hard water is one of the main causes of dishwasher residue on your crockery.
Now before anyone jumps down our throat, we know that dishwasher residue isn’t caused just by hard water, but that is the most common cause.
Other reasons could be that the water temperature isn’t hot enough to fully dissolve the tablet. Another cause could be using too much powder, if you’re doing a free pour method and not using tablets.
Best dishwasher detergent for hard water ?
If you live in an area with hard water, you’ll know how important it is to get a great dishwasher cleaner that does what it is supposed to do.
Phosphates help the detergents fight against the hard water in your dishwasher, but since companies have moved onto phosphate free products, the benchmarks have moved.
When we were testing we used 6 different brands and used each for 2 weeks solid, with the dishwasher used once a day, every day of the test.
To further try to maintain an equal playing field, we tried as much as possible to stick with the same meal patterns throughout, so we had the same meals each week over the test phase.
Our logic here was the dishes would all be prepared the same, cooked in the same dishes at the same temperatures etc, to try to make each test as similar as the previous session.
So what did we think is the best dishwasher detergent for hard water?
Our number one choice was the Finish Quantum Max Fresh 64 Tabs, Automatic Dishwasher Detergent Tablets.
Why did we choose these ? First was price, although not the cheapest they still offer very good value for money.
Secondly the results were very good, our dishes and glassware had never looked as clean, that we could remember.
Thirdly when we used Finish Quantum Max Fresh 64 Tabs along with Finish Jet-Dry Dishwasher Rinse Aid Agent 210 washes, we thought our glasses looked brand new, they were that clean.
You don’t really need the Finish Jet-Dry Dishwasher Rinse Aid Agent, but we chose to try it and were so impressed we are going to carry on using both products.
Of course what works for us won’t always work for you, but be assured we only suggest top quality products that we know work and do what they are supposed to do.
